This is definitely not a comprehensive list of all the fishing tournaments in Florida this year. We’ve tried to include tournaments that will appeal to a variety of anglers, so you should have no trouble finding one that’s perfect for you. Take a look:

Key West Fishing Tournament

The Key West Fishing Tournament is an eight-month-long competition that begins on January 1 and continues until August 31. Participants target more than 40 different species during the competition, in hopes of earning top prize. Anglers can enter into any of several different divisions, including those for men, women, juniors (10 to 15 years of age) and pee wees (under 10 years of age). 

When: 1/1-8/31

Jimmy Johnson's National Championship Fishing

If you are interested in fishing alongside celebrities and winning big bucks, you’ll want to check out the Jimmy Johnson’s National Championship Fishing Tournament. Scheduled for March 8th and 9th and hosted by legendary Jimmy Johnson, this tournament boasts the largest purse of any Florida fishing tournament, and it also benefits several charities, including the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

When: 3/8-3/9

Robert James Sales Sunrise/Sunset Tarpon Tourney

The Robert James Sales Sunrise/Sunset Tarpon Tourney is part of the Redbone Celebrity Trilogy. Located in Islamorada, this tournament gives anglers the chance to chase tarpon while bumping elbows with the rich-and-famous and raising money to “catch the cure” for cystic fibrosis. The tournament takes place from April 12th to the 14th and requires anglers to fish in two-person teams.

When: 4/12-4/14

11th Annual Rock the Dock Fishing Tournament

The 11th Annual Rock the Dock Fishing Tournament gives anglers the chance to win cash prizes while pitting their skills against one another. The tournament has inshore and offshore divisions, as well as a division for kayaking anglers. The tournament is scheduled for April 26th through the 28th and takes place at Woolly Park in Panacea.

When: 4/26-4/28

Sebastian Exchange Club Blue Water Open Offshore Charity Fishing Tournament

The Blue Water Open Offshore Charity Fishing Tournament is scheduled for June 1st this year, and it promises to be one of the best charity tournaments of the year. The event, which is located at Captain Hiram’s Resort in Sebastian, right off of U.S. Hwy. 1, gives you the chance to spend several hours competing with other anglers, and you’ll also get to enjoy an evening full of fun once you return to dry land. The 2019 purse hasn’t been set yet, but 2018’s purse totaled nearly $19,000!

The Third Annual Inshore/Offshore Wars Fishing Tournament

Scheduled to start on June 8th, the Third Annual Inshore/Offshore Wars Fishing Tournament gives anglers a chance to test their skills against others from all over the state. You and your team can enter the inshore or offshore division, and you can launch from any of six different boat ramps in the region. This picture-based tournament requires anglers to take a photo of all of their catches against a tournament-issued ruler.

When: 6/8

Pensacola International Billfish Tournament

Scheduled for June 26th through the 30th, the Pensacola International Billfish Tournament gives billfish anglers the chance to compete for cash awards. This tournament limits anglers to eight different types of fish, including sailfish, swordfish, wahoo, dolphin and tuna, among others. The event is hosted by the Pensacola Yacht Club. It includes plenty of fishing action, a captain’s meeting, a weigh-in and an awards brunch on the final day.

7th Annual Treasure Coast Bonita Blast

The 7th Annual Treasure Coast Bonita Blast takes place on August 17th in Port Salerno. Intended as a low-cost fishing tournament that is perfectly suited for fishing during the summer heat, the Bonita Blast lets anglers compete for cash and prizes while helping to support the Wounded Veterans Relief Fund. In addition to fishing, participants and spectators can also enjoy raffles, great food and live entertainment.

When: 8/17

Curtis Anders Memorial Florida Catfish Classic

Scheduled for September 29th and 30th, the Curtis Anders Memorial Catfish Classic is a great opportunity to test your catfish-catching skills. The tournament takes place in the Apalachicola River, but you’ll need to start at the Gaskin Park Boat Ramp, located in Wewahitchka. The tournament benefits Wewahitchka Search and Rescue and there are two divisions: one for adults and one for children 14 and under.

Fish United Way Tournament, Lake Parrish

Located in Manatee County, Lake Parrish is a world-famous bass and crappie fishery that appears on many anglers’ bucket lists. However, the lake is usually closed to the public, so this tournament is the best chance most anglers will get to fish it. Proceeds from the tournament are split between the United Way of South Sarasota County, United Way Suncoast and United Way of Manatee County.

When: The date for this year’s tournament has yet to be determined, but it is usually scheduled for mid-November.
